Looking from her Window – Mixed Media

This piece is meant to represent the many women who are forced to cover their entire body and face because their society believes that is what is dictated by their religion. The interpretations of these verses of religious scripture have made millions of women around the world miserable. These words grew into a spiritual, social, and political force impact is now global. The piece features a wooden box which looks like a black object, representing a woman with an abaya which covers the body, the hijab which covers the hair, and the niqab which covers the face. Two layers of open circles in the middle are like women looking to the world through a small window. A small wooden ball moves inside these circles showing the limit of her sight. On the end of the box are the verses which are used to justify these limitations.
